Andrew Young spent a second day on the witness stand in John Edwards' federal campaign finance trial. Edwards' former personal aide is the prosecution's star witness as it looks to convict Edwards of six felony counts of violating campaign finance law. Ed Scannell has more.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- This was the prosecution's day to guide jurors on a money trail of more than $900,000 that it says was used to hide John Edwards' affair with mistress Rielle Hunter and protect his bid for the presidency.

Prosecutor David Harbach showed jurors several checks from Rachel “Bunny” Mellon used to pay for food, housing and medical care for Hunter.

Young said his wife deposited those checks in her maiden name. Young then recounted spending by campaign finance manager Fred Baron for stays in luxury hotels and expensive homes in Aspen, Colorado, San Diego and Santa Barbara. He said the aim of keeping Hunter on the move was to shield her from the media.

At Edwards' urging, Young claimed paternity of Hunter's child. He said he did so because he believed in Edwards' causes and wanted him to be president. And Young believed being loyal to Edwards ultimately would benefit him and his family.

Edwards promised to stick by him, but suddenly cut off contact after Hunter's baby was born.
