ALBANY, N.Y. -- Safety concerns over hydrofracking are at the forefront again in Albany. The Senate Democratic Conference is holding a public forum today. Lawmakers plan to discuss a package of bills they say would better inform New Yorkers of the risks associated with the controversial drilling practice.
Nearly 100 municipalities across the state have already approved measures to ban fracking within their limits.
Senate Democrats introduced a measure to provide the DEC with money to conduct studies on the health and environmental impacts of fracking, but that bill was voted down. That led to Democrats organizing today's forum.
