BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Broome Community College is in the running for a national excellence award.

The school has been selected as one of the top 120 community colleges in the country and will now compete for the 2013 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.

BCC is one of six community colleges in New York that made the list. Schools are chosen based on things like graduation rates and the number of degrees awarded.

The $1 million grand prize will be awarded after a year-long study of each school.
