SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A group of Syracuse police officers were honored at the annual Life Savers Award Celebration. Officer James Morris, Sergeant William Galvin, Sergeant Michael Mourey, and Officer Dean Rose were chosen for their heroic and selfless acts during two life-saving situations.

Also honored were three teenagers from Central New York for their community service efforts.

"This award, like, it's a great honor but it doesn't mean as much to me as, like, it does to put somebody else, well, make somebody else's day. It's that smile that I put somebody else's face that means the most to me. It doesn't cost me anything or like dread on me or make it hard for me to do. But, it's that little thing that I can do to make somebody else's day that I enjoy,” said Tyler Doupe, Oswego Co. Outstanding Teenager of the Year.

"A lot of it is definitely through school and like through my church. And, I just, I really like to be an involved and help others. It's just what I've done...and what I like to do," said Cara Byrns, Onondaga Co. Outstanding Teenager of the Year.

Cara intends to continue helping out in whatever community she calls home in the future. Tyler is attending St. John Fisher in the fall, and says he wants to be a pediatrician.

The Madison County Teenager of the Year was Alyssa Prawl.

Thursday's awards were sponsored by Columbian Financial Group, the Syracuse Chapter of National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and the Syracuse Life Insurance Industry.
