ITHACA, N.Y. - Chandler Jones said he was trying to keep his expectations low, but there's no doubt he's on a high right now after the New England Patriots traded up to take the former Syracuse University and Union-Endicott High School defensive end with the 21st overall pick on Thursday.
Jones is the first Syracuse player to be taken in the first round since Dwight Freeney in 2002, and he is the second member of his family to make the NFL after his older brother Arthur, another former SU player who was picked in the fifth round by Baltimore two years ago. The Patriots happen to play the Ravens this coming season in Week 3 at Baltimore.
Jones watched Thursday's draft coverage with his family at the Ithaca home of his other older brother, Jon, a successul professional athlete himself as the UFC's undisputed light heavyweight champion.
