WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- More than 1,100 community members walked to raise money and awareness for a good cause Saturday. The 18th Annual Heart Walk at the Fairgrounds Arena in Watertown focused to build healthier lives and support heart research.
Many of those supporting the walk have been affected personally by a heart attack, stroke or other heart issues. They say seeing the community pour so much support into helping the American Heart Association is important to them.
"It means a lot to me. My husband and I have been involved in the Heart Association and the committees to plan all of this and it's just wonderful to see all of the people come out today," stroke survivor Sue Hamilton said.
Watertown's Heart Walk raised $200,000. It was one of more than 450 walks being held nationwide.
