ROME, N.Y. -- The Rome Fire Department cut up a totaled sedan into several pieces Saturday as a part of their vehicle emergency demonstration at the Rome Home Show.
The department started by showing spectators how they would put out a fire without injuring people in a car. After demonstrating how to remove an injured patient, they removed the doors and took the roof off.
The fire department says it wants to comfort the public by showing them how efficient their technology is.
“We have the tools to help them if they're ever in that situation, so we can keep them safe and hopefully get them out to the hospital and back to recovery,” said Rome Fire Department Lieutenant Allen Johnson.
The fire department will run the same demonstration outside the Rome Home Show at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
