Syracuse, Cornell fall in regular-season finales
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 17 Syracuse men's lacrosse team nearly overcame going without a goal in the first half but No. 3 Notre Dame held on for an 8-6 win in both teams' regular-season finale on Saturday.
Syracuse trailed 4-0 at halftime as it was stymied by the stingiest defense in NCAA Division I then got within 7-6 in the fourth quarter before getting stymied again down the stretch.
The Orange (7-7) now prepares for the Big East tournament at Villanova. Third-seeded SU will face the No. 2 Wildcats in the semifinals Thursday night at 7:00.
PRINCETON, N.J. - With a chance to win a share of the Ivy League regular-season title and home-field advantage in the league tournament, the No. 8 Cornell men's lacrosse team instead suffered its worst loss of the season with a 14-9 defeat at No. 12 Princeton.
The victory gives the Tigers the outright title and the top seed in the tournament. Cornell (9-3) is the No. 2 seed and will play No. 3 Yale in the semifinals Friday at 5:00.
