ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Man's best friend joined in on the fourth annual Six Legged 5K at Onondaga Lake Parkway.
The Fleet Feet-sponsored event helps raise money for the Central New York SPCA.
This year was the first year the organization did pre-registration for the event, which proved to be a success. More than 100 people showed up to walk and run with and without pets.
SPCA officials say they're grateful for the support of the community.
"The cost to care for a pet in general, unfortunately, is on the increase. Vet care is very expensive and we house an average of 250 to 300 animals on a daily basis, so it's a lot of animals to take care of," said SPCA Director of Education Kimberly Smith.
Over the past three years, the Six-Legged 5K has generated almost $13,000 in donations for the Central New York SPCA.
