ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Hundreds of motorcyclists gathered in Lyncourt to pray for a safe start to the riding season.

The Blessing of the Bikes is an annual event that is also meant to remind other drivers about their presence out on the roads.

It's been held for 29 years, rain or shine, and participants say it's become a very special event.

"Whenever the motorcycle community comes together, it's a very positive moment. We enjoy the brotherhood and sisterhood and getting out and being around one another after being locked up all winter is very special," said Mike Giarrusso, Legislative Coordinator of Onondaga ABATE.

At Sunday's blessing, the riders also honored Monsignor Eugene Yennock, who has led the event for all 29 years. It was also announced that going forward, the event will be named after him.
