SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Occupy Syracuse movement made some noise Tuesday, marching through downtown as part of their day-long May Day protest.

The group is challenging U.S. corporations, on behalf of what they claim is the 99 percent of Americans not sharing in the country's prosperity.

Many members have drifted in and out of the movement since Occupy took up residence in Perseverance Park late last year but those who remain said they are going strong and their message is making a difference.

Jon Grey, an Occupy Syracuse protester said, “It's become part of the political lexicon. Politicians have to deal with what Occupy is talking about, and this wasn't a conversation that was being had a year ago, and now it's part of the conversation, so at least we have a foot in the door."

Syracuse was one of many cities with Occupy rallies marking the first day of May.
