NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — “It is finally official. I have the agreements in place that are necessary to make this happen on June 15th."

After months of hard work, Nik Wallenda and his team sealed the deal late Tuesday night with New York State Parks and the Niagara Parks Commission in Canada for the once in a lifetime event.

"We had to change two laws in two countries that were over 100 hundred years old," Wallenda said.

Assembly John Ceretto, who co-sponsored legislation that made it possible for Wallenda to walk, said it’s an event visitors to the area will talk about for years to come.

"He will be a draw in himself way beyond this walk and he's going to go down in history," Ceretto said.

Wallenda has yet to set an official time but state parks officials said the walk will take place at 9 o'clock that night.

The wire walker, who hopes to create a permanent tourist facility in the area, said signing the deal was an emotional experience.

"I actually started to tear up a little bit because this is the next step in making this a reality,” Wallenda recalled.

Wallenda also indicated he plans on establishing a presence in the area prior to his walk, as well.

Starting May 12th, he'll begin training sessions at the Seneca Niagara Casino that are free and open to the public. They will run through May 22nd.

"It's just something that we're doing to hopefully bring people into this area," he said.

Wallenda's wire will stretch from Terrapin Point in the U.S. over to a visitor’s center in Canada, though he's not sure, at this point, which side he'll start from.

"That all is determined by the weather," he said.

Wallenda said he expects to make an announcement on a network partnership in the next few weeks.
