STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- In the summer of 2010, President Obama signed legislation to change the name of the Hornell Post Office to the Zachary Smith Post Office Building. A month later, the community gathered to commemorate the occasion and unveiled a placard that would be placed inside the building.
Nearly two years later, family members say the U.S. Postal Service has denied their request to place the marker or his name on the building.
Now, an online petition has been created to urge Congress to take action. So far, 2,000 people have signed the petition and with each signature an email is sent to Congress.
