The prosecution continues to lay out its case in the trial of an Ithaca man accused of murder. On Tuesday, the defendant's ex-girlfriend was called to the stand. Tamara Lindstrom has more from the courtroom.

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Exactly what happened to evidence after the fatal shooting was the focus in the Corbin Whyte murder trial Tuesday.

The Ithaca man is accused in the shooting death of 47-year-old Paul Garcia. Garcia was found dead in front of his Maple Hill Apartment in December 2010.

Whyte has been charged with robbery and tampering with evidence, along with second degree murder.

Also charged with tampering with evidence is Whyte's former girlfriend, Zsatia Perkins. She took the stand for the prosecution as part of a plea agreement with authorities.

Perkins said she disposed of a suitcase, bag of clothes and a pair of boots for the defendant after the shooting. The defense questioned inconsistencies in her testimony, pointing out that she did not give the same information to police when she was first questioned.

Several of the witnesses in this case, including a neighbor and Garcia's former girlfriend, have said they withheld information from police at first.

Meanwhile, Whyte's supporters have shown a strong presence in the courtroom.

The prosecution will continue to call witnesses Wednesday, as they attempt to prove Whyte either shot Garcia, or acted with another person to kill him.
