ELMIRA, N.Y. -- One man is in custody after an armed robbery at an Elmira bank Tuesday afternoon.

Elmira Police say Daniel French, 27, of Elmira, robbed the Five Star Bank on North Main Street with a small knife.

Police arrived at the bank at 2:02 p.m. and had French in custody just a few minutes later when they found him walking at the intersection of West 3rd and Davis Street.

Police would not specify how much money they say French stole from the bank.

"There was no injuries. Of course, the bank teller was shaken and a little scared but she is doing fine and did an outstanding job at providing a very good description and identification of the individual,” Elmira Police Department Captain Joseph Kain said.

French is currently being held in the Elmira Police Department lockup and is being charged with first degree robbery, a class B felony.
