ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A serious accident between a tractor trailer and an SUV closed a portion of State Route 37 in the St. Lawrence County town of Hammond for about five hours Tuesday.

The truck was carrying a large front end loader on a flat bed trailer when the two vehicles collided. The truck went off the shoulder of the road, traveled down a small embankment and ended up burying the trailer in the mud of a field.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a Syracuse hospital with injuries.

Crews worked for several hours to get both the loader and the trailer out of the field.

Route 37 between County Route 6 and Ireland Road was shut down during that time.
