Jury sides with city in civil rights lawsuit
UTICA, N.Y. -- A jury has ruled in favor of the City of Utica and two of its police officers in a lawsuit claiming a violation of civil rights.
After a three day trial, a jury determined the two police officers named in the lawsuit did not violate the rights of Ann Sheppard.
Sheppard was arrested in 2009 after a large disturbance involving 150 people who had just left a party in the city. Several people, including Sheppard, were taken into custody. She filed a $3 million lawsuit against the city and the two officers, claiming she was falsely arrested and that they had used excessive force.
A jury sided with the officers and the city on all claims.
