SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse VA Medical Center is honoring nurses who have gone above and beyond their job description on daily basis. To celebrate Nurses’ Week, four nurses were awarded for their dedication Thursday during a special luncheon at the medical center. The nurses were nominated by their peers and must have demonstrated an excellence in nursing to win the award.
The theme this year was "nurses advocating caring and leading" and hospital officials said all of the award winners demonstrated that.
"Our nurses work 24/7, seven days a week, they're very dedicated professionals. They're the backbone of our hospital in providing support to patient care,” said Nancy Schmid, Associate Director for Patient and Nursing Services at VA.
Hospital officials said the awards given out at the luncheon are among the highest honors a nurse can receive.
