LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Lewis County community members walked together Wednesday, raising awareness for mental health.

The sixth annual mental health walk is helping bring attention to health issues that are many times difficult to talk about.

Organizers say there has been an increase in treatment for PTSD, traumas and children's issues throughout the area. They believe walks like this help many overcome stigmas of mental health and become more open about seeking help.

"If people are open about their issues, it's much easier to get them taken care of because you can get that connect with other people and get help from peers, you can feel free about going to the professionals for help and you feel less isolated when you see that there's other people in the community battling the same things that you are," said Brenda Campany, Northern Regional Center for Independent Living Executive Director.
