SKANEATELES, N.Y. -- Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies are trying to figure out just what caused the driver of a pickup truck to swerve in the road and collide with another vehicle in Skaneateles.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. Friday on Route 20 just outside the village.

Deputies say the driver of a white pickup was traveling east bound when he appeared to lose control and crashed head-on into an oncoming van. The driver of the truck was killed in the crash.

"We have a couple of witnesses who tells us that he was all over the road just before the accident, that it appears he just drove into the truck. We're not sure whether he was conscious at the time that he hit the truck. One of the witnesses said he appeared to be slumped over at the wheel. So whether it was some medical condition or there is something else involved, that's still under investigation," Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh said.

The driver of the van was not injured.

Route 20 was closed to traffic for about four hours.
