Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week
NEW YORK STATE -- With Memorial Day and camping season just around the corner, Governor Andrew Cuomo is encouraging residents and visitors to become better educated about a tiny but destructive bug in the region.
The DEC has announced that the second annual Emerald Ash Borer Awareness week starts this Sunday. The beetle is blamed for killing millions of trees in the U.S. since it was first discovered in 2002. It infests and kills North American ash tree species, which account for seven percent of all trees in New York.
The DEC will post signs and tie ribbons on more than 6,000 ash trees along selected streets and in parks around the state.
