Man arrested after high speed chase

OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- Authorities arrest a man who led them on a high speed chase before crashing his car in Oswego County.

Officials said Jeremy Rupert, 35, of Oswego fled from Sheriff's deputies after they responded to a shoplifting incident at the TJ Maxx in Mattydale around 7 p.m. Friday.

Rupert then drove north on 481 before he lost control of his car, crashing into a guardrail near the Route 57-A exit for Phoenix. Rupert fled on foot into the woods. He was found just before 11 p.m. in a backyard on County Route 57 near Bankrupt Road in Phoenix.

A female passenger was taken to Oswego Hospital with minor injuries.

Rupert has been charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving and other traffic violations. He was also wanted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for a petit larceny charge.
