ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Runners had nice weather for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Thousands of people, including hundreds of breast cancer survivors, took part in the 5k competitive run at the State Fairgrounds Saturday morning.

Organizers said 75 percent of the money raised supports local nonprofit agencies, while the rest goes toward breast cancer research at a national level. They said events like this are important because breast cancer affects almost everyone.

Deb Nosky, the Race Director said, “We have whole families here, we have friends supporting other friends. It really is a mosaic of the Central New York community, how they come together for the event to do something powerful for our community."

Race for the Cure is held in communities around the world, another is scheduled to be run in Elmira Sunday morning.
