Eight people hurt in Verona crash
VERONA, N.Y. -- Authorities are investigating a rollover crash in Oneida County that left eight people injured. It happened around 8 Saturday night on State Route 31 in Verona near the Vernon-Verona-Sherill High School.
Officials say Cody Domena, 17, lost control of his SUV while passing another vehicle. His vehicle went off the road and hit a utility pole before it rolled over. One passenger was thrown from the vehicle and taken to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with head trauma. Another passenger was flown to Upstate University Hospital with a serious leg injury. Six other passengers were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.
Route 31 was closed for several hours following the crash. Officials say they believe the primary cause was unsafe speed and driver inexperience. They say Domena only had a learner's permit.
