Bus monitor accused of hitting child

UTICA, N.Y. -- A bus monitor in Utica faces charges after police say security footage caught the woman hitting an autistic child on her bus.

Kendra Owens, 38, has been charged with harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the bus was stopped in the parking lot of Proctor High School to pick up children when the 11-year-old child stood up to stretch his legs. Owens told him to sit back down and the two began to argue. The boy told police Owens then punched and slapped him in the face and slammed his head against the window.

The child told his mother, who notified police. They then pulled security footage from the bus and subsequently arrested Owens.
