DELAWARE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Susquehanna River is filled with canoes and kayaks this weekend for the 50th Annual General Clinton Canoe Regatta.
Saturday's events featured the first ever canoe parade, and the induction of the first class of the General Clinton Canoe Hall of Fame. More than 50 boats made their way from Sidney to Bainbridge.
Organizers said they didn't get as many boats as they thought, but were glad with the event’s turnout.
John Harmon, the Regatta Chairman said, “This is the first time we figured we'd try it, we maybe thought we'd get 100 boats, but we ended up getting 53. Everybody's out there having a great time. It's just a leisurely float down the river, it's not a race, so it's just a fun time. Everybody's celebrating people that never really paddled or raced. "
Events continue for the Regatta through Monday night, culminating in a barbecue and trophy ceremony.
