CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Fifteen years after MajorPalooza got its start as a backyard barbecue in Auburn, the event, now known as Palooza in the Park, boasts more than 3,000 participants.

The 5K race and after-party raises money each year for various local youth charities. Last year it brought in more than $20,000 and organizers expect similar outcome this time around too. The big change this year was moving it to Falcon Park, home of the Auburn Doubledays.

Organizers said it really turned out to be a win-win for everyone involved.

Chris Major, Board Director for Majorpalooza Inc. said, “We're working real close with the Auburn Doubledays and Auburn Community baseball. We're trying to bring people onto the field to get a look at the park, how beautiful it is and what they have to offer and there's a lot to offer here. And in turn we're having our event here and we're raising a little money for local charities."

Some of the charities receiving funds include Hospice of the Fingerlakes, Camp Hearts Ahoy and Golisano Children's Hospital.
