SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Communities across the country come together for parades, memorials and ceremonies to honor those who have died fighting for our country.

In Syracuse, a parade was held along James Street beginning at the American Legion and wrapping up at the Eastwood Veterans Memorial at the intersection of James and Grant Boulevard.

Politicians, veterans and members of the community gathered there after the parade for a special wreath-laying ceremony.

Organizers and veterans said it's great to see support grow from year to year at events like this.

Eastwood American Legion Vice Commander Bill Tewell said, "Every year this parade gets bigger and you get more people and you get more people out and it's just great to have them come out for the parade and to honor the people who lost their lives for America."

In addition to the wreath laying there was also a 21-gun salute and local Boy Scouts held a flag burning ceremony.
