BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The 'little parade with a big heart' was held in the Town of Binghamton Monday morning.

The Memorial Day parade kicked off at 10 a.m. The procession started at Fire Station 1 on Hawleyton Road and ended at Hawleyton Cemetery on Saddlemire Road where a brief memorial service was held. It was made up of firefighters, the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and even some residents.

Organizers and participants say they look forward to honoring veterans from all wars, even back to the Civil War.

"Our tower decided to put the flag over the road to honor our veterans who make it possible for us to be here and do what we can on a daily basis and those who have passed on are the reason we're here today. We wanted to honor them put a flag up and see our support for them," said Gary Gunn, Town of Binghamton Fire Company Chief.

"My great grandfather put almost four years into the Army and what little hours I can put into it is nothing compared to what he and millions of others did in that four year period. You've got to remember, 620,000 men never came home," said Doug Deuel, Sons of the Union Veterans Civil War, Past Commander of Camp David.

The parade was sponsored by the Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company. Organizers say the little parade gets bigger each year.
