SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Kids from schools around Central New York reached for the stars in Syracuse Saturday morning.

The Museum of Science and Technology hosted the CNY Rocket Team Challenge on Syracuse University's South Campus. Participants built their rockets and launched them about one thousand feet into the air, carrying an egg.

The teams are judged in a variety of categories, ranging from aesthetics to correctly predicting how high their rocket will go.

Peter Plumley, MOST Exhibits Project Manager said, “They actually have to figure out how much the rocket weighs, how strong the motor is, and calculate the height that the rocket will reach. And that's the main part of this project. That's the science."

YNN's parent company, Time Warner Cable, was one of the sponsors of the Rocket Team Challenge.
