MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- There is no place like home, especially in Chittenango.
Oz-Stravaganza! is underway, as the entire community comes out to celebrate "Wizard of Oz" Author L. Frank Baum, who was born in Chittenango in 1856. The Oz Parade featured plenty of floats, animals and marching bands, along with Grand Marshal Gregory Maguire, the author of the Wicked Series.
This was the 34th annual parade and organizers of Oz-Stravaganza! said it is the biggest year yet. The goal of the family-friendly festival is to honor Baum. but also encourage the same kind of creativity he showed.
Barbara Evans, the Oz-Stravaganza! Co-Director said, “Learn to read. Find an author that you love. It doesn't have to be L. Frank Baum, but there are so many things that you can take away from his work. Another important thing is the fact that he was born in a small town. People need to know that you can be born in a small town and go out and do great things."
Oz Stravaganza! continues Sunday. And you won't want to miss what they have planned for the Grand Finale which starts at 3:30 p.m.
