BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Rain could not keep people away from a day of music in Binghamton. The Finger Lakes Clean Water Initiative held the 2012 Big Splash Concert Series at Recreation Park on Saturday.

Ten bands took over two stages to play music and celebrate water, which according to organizers, is New York's number one economic resource.

The Finger Lakes Clean Water Initiative partnered with the city of Binghamton, the Sierra Club, Catskill Mountain Keeper and others to help organize the event.

People enjoyed food, a dance tent and browsing stands around the park.

Organizers said the day was not just about entertainment, but it also showcased speakers and other educational outreach groups that discussed the dangers of hydrofracking.

"Binghamton Big Splash is essentially raising awareness for clean water initiative and clean air initiative and against hydrofracking. Just get everything together and all the bands to get people aware of what's going on," said Jay Alexander, event stage hand.

"We like to get people together in the best way possible, food, beer and music. We have a lot of information vendors just trying to spread the word," said Derek Clark, event stage producer.

The event is free, but those who attend are asked to donate ten dollars to help fund future water protection efforts.
