Woman accused of critically injuring son

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Chemung County woman is accused of seriously injuring her child. State police arrested Nicole Freeman, 27, also known as Nicole Sager, of Van Etten Friday.

According to investigators, Freeman shook her 16-month-old son on Wednesday, causing a serious brain injury. The child was taken to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, then flown to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Police said the child is listed in critical condition and is not expected to survive.

Freeman is currently charged with Reckless Assault of a Child, but police said the charge will be amended if the victim's condition changes. Freeman is being held at the Chemung County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
