OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Residents in the City of Oswego are mourning the loss of three men who were killed in a car crash Tuesday night next to the Oswego Speedway.

Robert Sanke, Justin Purdy and Antonio Mendez all died when the car they were traveling in hit a pole at the intersection of East Albany Street and Shampine Drive.

Two others, Donald Odin and Jeremy Tassie, were seriously injured. Odin and Tassie were taken to Upstate University Hospital and are expected to recover.

The accident happened at 8:15 p.m. after police say the group left Jeremy Tassie's apartment. Initial reports show that all of the men had been drinking before the accident and that speed may also have been a factor.

Wednesday morning, dozens of friends stopped by a memorial set up near the crash site to place flowers and to remember the three men, who they say all leave behind small children.

"They're just amazing people. They're the best dads I could probably ever ask for. I just don't know how anybody is going to get through all this," Renee Ferlito said.

A candle light vigil is scheduled at the accident site for 8 p.m. Wednesday.
