NEW YORK, N.Y. -- NASA's prototype space shuttle Enterprise made one last journey Wednesday as it moved to its new home at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum on Manhattan's West Side.

The Enterprise left Port Elizabeth in New Jersey on a barge around 10:15 a.m. before passing the Statue of Liberty and the World Trade Center.

It arrived at the Intrepid around 1 p.m. where it began an hours long craning process to lift it onto the flight deck.

"We’ve been calling this a ballet. It is really amazing how many people have been working on this, all the engineering that goes into it, all the technology that goes into it. It’s a very, very complex process but with all these folks they make it look like just a beautiful ballet," said Intrepid Museum President Susan Marenoff-Zausner.

The shuttle will go on display to the public next month.
