ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- It's been one year today since Oneida County lost a sheriff's deputy, family member, and friend. Deputy Kurt Wyman, 24, was shot and killed during a standoff in the hamlet of Knoxboro on June 7th last year.
Today, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office will mark the anniversary with a memorial. At 8 a.m., a service is taking place at the Oneida County Law enforcement building, which will be renamed in Deputy Wyman's honor. Deputies will also be wearing black over their badges today as a sign of respect.
The 24-year-old was the first deputy in the office's history to die in the line of duty.
