SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It is national job fair month and Governor Andrew Cuomo is making sure there are plenty of opportunities for job seekers.

Eleven job fairs are being held across the state as part of the Governor's New York Works program. The one in Syracuse brought more than 40 businesses together Thursday at the Burnett Park Zoo.

Officials estimate that more than 1,400 people showed up with resumes in hand.

Outside the event, we spoke with a couple of people who say the market has just been really tough.

"I've been searching for about six months now and it's been really rough. It's really tough to find employment right now," Jason Stempien said.

"I've been looking for a long time to find a full time position. It's been kind of hard, so hopefully I'll find something today," Tyleisha Outley said.

In all, seven state-sponsored job fairs were held Thursday. The rest will continue to be held throughout the month.
