OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. – There is some good news for boaters in Oswego County. State Senator Patty Ritchie says dredging of a channel connecting Sandy Pond to Lake Ontario will be starting as early as Monday, which is a month ahead of schedule.
Low water levels have made the channel nearly impassable for many boats and a permit was granted to the Sandy Pond Channel Maintenance Association for dredging to start July 15th. But Senator Ritchie helped secure permission from the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, the DEC and the Department of State to begin work early.
Ritchie says opening up the waterway will help boost the local economy while extending the summer boating season.
