Whooping cough on the rise in Livingston County

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Livingston County Health Department has issued an alert about a whooping cough outbreak.

According to the Health Department, there have been 32 cases of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, since the beginning of this year.

Only one case of whooping cough was reported last year during the same time period, said the Health Department.

The Health Department also indicated that cases of other respiratory illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia have also been on the rise.
