MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - After falling to a Long Island team in last year's state Class A championship game, the Ithaca boys lacrosse team fell to another in this year's final with West Islip pulling away in the second half to win 12-7 Saturday at Middletown High School.
Ithaca scored the first two goals of the game and had it tied 4-4 in the third quarter before the Lions, ranked No. 3 in the entire country, exploded for six-straight goals en route to their fifth state championship in the last seven years.
The Little Red, still looking for their first state title, end the year 18-2.
