ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The section of the Erie Canal path in DeWitt that was closed this weekend is now back open. Canal officials had to close the path between Butternut Drive and Cedar Bay Park after an aqueduct was damaged.

The breach caused water to flow out of the canal into the Butternut Creek, leading to erosion and flooding. Officials closed the road temporarily so that construction vehicles could access the area to make the necessary repairs.

It is now open, but repair work continues.
