BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A public pool in Johnson City remains closed after several people suffered chemical burns on Sunday. Deputy Superintendent of Public Works Mike Sherba says high levels of chlorine are to blame.

Emergency crews, the Health Department and HAZMAT teams responded to 200 Floral Avenue over the weekend after receiving reports of people suffering from red rashes and burning eyes.

The Floral Park Pool will remain closed until a full investigation is done and all equipment is checked.

The Broome County Health Department will inspect the pool before it’s allowed to reopen. Officials say that could be as early as Thursday afternoon.

Three children were burned by the chlorine, as well as a handful of adults. Those affected were either treated on site or taken to Wilson Hospital.
