BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- City staff joined members from several local and federal agencies Thursday for a walking tour of downtown Binghamton.

The tour was part of a day-long "Complete Streets" workshop that was provided through the EPA's Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities program. It began at City Hall and included parts of Hawley and Court Streets.

The goal was to identify ways that the city can make its streets safer and more convenient for all users.

Those who facilitated the workshop say they found many positives, with room for improvement.

"There's a lot of things that Binghamton has done already in terms of getting bike lanes implemented, just up the road the Court Street Roundabout, but there's still a lot that can be done to the streets of Binghamton," said Dan Hardy, Renaissance Planning Group Principal.

Binghamton is one of 56 communities in 26 states selected by the EPA for the 2012 program. The Binghamton City Council adopted a Complete Streets Policy in July of 2011.
