ALBANY, N.Y. -- Republican Wendy Long will take on incumbent U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in November.

The attorney won a three-way primary Tuesday, beating out Congressman Bob Turner and Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos.

Long has never held office but has the backing of the New York Conservative Party and the National Organization for Marriage.

Long now faces Democrat Gillibrand, a three-year incumbent who already has about $10 million in campaign cash. In 2009, Gillibrand was appointed to replace Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She won election in 2010 to finish Clinton's term that ends this year. This time, Gillibrand is running for a full, six-year term.
