UNITED STATES -- "The Cleveland Cavaliers select Dion Waiters of Syracuse University."
The number four pick overall in the NBA draft was Dion Waiters, who will head west to Cleveland.
The Cavaliers picked the former Syracuse guard in the first round Thursday night.
Waiters becomes one of only a few players to ever be chosen in the first round without being a starter on his college team.
And he's not the only former Orange player to go in the first round. Fab Melo was drafted 22nd by the Boston Celtics.
Fans say Waiters' high draft pick will benefit SU.
"Top five in the draft, he wasn't a starter, so he's definitely a hard worker, gives 110 percent, you know, the whole game. It says a lot about him, a lot about his character," Mike Hill said.
"I think it's great for the program. Ever since winning the national championship with Carmelo, they have just skyrocketed up. NBA prospects, you get a guy like that coming in, that's just going to bring better recruits in year in year out," said Paul Fisher.
