BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees Friday, meaning many will be flocking to local pools to keep cool.

Lifeguards say a dip in the water is the perfect way to beat the heat, but it must be done safely. They remind everyone that there is no running near pools, jumping near other swimmers is prohibited, stay away from the deep end if you're not a strong swimmer and be courteous of others in the water.

The hot weather has brought out more swimmers this summer, which means safety is even more crucial.

"This past summer has been so busy with the heat that we've had to jump in and save quite a few people. People are just anxious to get in the water and are so excited they forget that they can't swim," said Anthony Paniccia.

Pools in Binghamton are open from noon to 7:45 p.m. seven days a week.
