New YMCA to open in Manlius
The Manlius community will have a brand new place to test their athleticism. A YMCA is coming to town. Its main feature will be tennis, but will have a number of other things to offer. Our Iris St. Meran was given a sneak peak a few days before the tennis courts are set to open.

MANLIUS, N.Y. -- Tennis players in the Manlius area will have some new courts to play on. They are located in what will be the Manlius YMCA.
Associate Executive Director of Athletic Performance and Health and Wellness Dennie Taft said, "We have three indoor facilities, courts that are available, and five outdoor courts. We'll also have a small cardio fitness room available for our general membership."
Members can also take advantage of a turf field for youth sports, care for school age children and a studio for yoga and pilates, among other things. It's located on West Seneca Turnpike in the building of a former tennis club. Members of that club are delighted they'll still get to play their favorite sport.
"The longer our experience goes of having a family friendly environment right here in the Manlius area, that is still underscoring the importance of tennis for all ages, I think there will be a resurgence of tennis for all ages," said YMCA member David Shannon.
Although the East Area YMCA is a short distance away in Fayetteville, they're looking to offer members something different.
"This facility is really a complement to the programs that we offer over the there. So it's a little bit different. It's a programming facility,” Taft said. “We outgrew a lot of our programs in the East Area YMCA. We see this site as a way to bring those programs to our community."
They're looking forward to getting the community involved.
The YMCA will be open for tennis starting Monday. Renovations should be done by September.
