HORNELL, N.Y. -- The decision to stop the name of a fallen soldier from being displayed outside of the Hornell post office has been reversed. The post office dedicated its building to Lance Corporal Zachary Smith, who was killed in action in January of 2010.

Although the plaque was established inside of the building, Smith's parents were upset that his name could not be displayed outside. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Tom Reed pressured the U.S. Postal Service to make an exception in the regulations that prohibited honoree's names from displayed on the exterior of post office buildings.

After several meetings, the U.S. Postal Service said they will now allow Smith's name at the Hornell building.
