ONONDAGA COUNTY -- Work has begun on a renovation of Fayetteville's Canal Landing Park.
The state has awarded the project $150,000 for the first phase of the half million dollar project. Eventually the work will connect the Canal Landing Park with the Erie Canal Trailway.
The bulk of the first phase of work involves installation of a handicapped accessible pedestrian bridge across Limestone Creek.
"This project not only is going to bring economic development, but is going to be bringing people to Fayetteville and to the Erie Canal and to the ballfields and to our shops and local businesses. This project is not a great project only for the residents of Fayetteville, but everybody who visits Fayetteville," said Mark Olson, Fayetteville Mayor.
The work at Fayetteville is among a number of projects that won state funding in a regional competition. The work on the project, in addition to boosting tourism, is expected to create just under 20 construction jobs.
