LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- It is a condition that the CDC says will affect one out of every 26 people at some point in their lives. Community members in Syracuse came together to raise awareness of epilepsy.
Saturday morning marked the second annual awareness walk sponsored by the Epilepsy Foundation of Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton. More than 300 people signed up to take part in the even at Onondaga Lake Park. According to organizers, it's important to educate the public about the condition, and reduce the stigma associated with it.
"Sometimes it looks a little scary when you see someone having a seizure on the ground, maybe convulsing. Also, someone could look dazed and confused when walking around. Sometimes you could think that maybe they're drunk, maybe high on drugs, but they're not. They're actually having a seizure," explained Pamela Hunter, Epilepsy Foundation Regional Director.
